Technical Manager – Engineered Wood Products

Job Location: northern Alberta (3 hours north of Edmonton)

Relocation Required – Relocation assistance being offered.

Annual Salary: $102,000 to $136,000, Plus northern location payment on top of your base pay

Shift: Monday-Friday

Our client is seeking a full-time, permanent Technical Manager with strong leadership skills, technical knowledge and a background in OSB/EWP (Engineered Wood Products) manufacturing processes. Pulp and paper or corrugated board experience may also be considered.   The position requires relocation to a small town 3 hours north of Edmonton, Alberta and relocation assistance is offered.

  • Have a degree or diploma in Wood Science, Forestry, Engineering, or a related technical field
  • Have a proven track record leading the organization and the supervision of technical aspects of process improvements, technology, research and development, specifically in an engineered wood products environment.  Pulp and paper or corrugated board may also be considered
  • Are familiar with quality management systems (e.g., ISO 9001) and continuous improvement methodologies (e.g., Lean, Six Sigma)
  • Are an excellent communicator with the ability to take technical information and effectively communicate to a non-technical audience….This role might be for you!

As the ideal candidate you lead with integrity and are someone who can build working relationships with your team of 6 Lab Technicians in addition to having the skills to sit around a boardroom table and effectively share your thoughts, recommendations and also push back, as required.

  • Are legally authorized to work for any employer in Canada (e.g. Canadian citizenship, permanent residency, open work permit)
  • Have degree or diploma in Wood Science, Forestry, Engineering, or a related technical field
  • Have strong statistical knowledge and computer literacy
  • Have experience leading and resolving quality issues within areas of responsibility, ensuring alignment with production goals and safety standards
  • Have experience investigating customer claims & complaints and ensuring effective corrective actions are implemented
  • Are proficient in the English language (oral and written)
